Poses hopes that one of his ideas will become the new classic family game and a household name. “We have groups play-test the games to get a good feel for how it might be perceived in the marketplace.” A lesson he has had to learn, however, is the importance of outside opinions when it comes to his ideas. “I turn everything into a game,” says Poses. When he was 23, he hit the road, essentially selling Loaded Questions out of the trunk of his car to anyone who would listen. “Any time the family is together, we’re playing card games or table-top board games.” For Poses, this has instilled a love of games that bring people together and can be played at family gatherings, with friends, or at bars, as opposed to role-play or video games that are usually played alone.ĭespite his family history, Poses worked hard to get where he is today. The gaming industry was a natural route for Poses to take, as his mother’s family was part of the Goodson-Todman team who created long-standing game shows The Price is Right and Family Feud. The first and most well-known game Poses concepted, Loaded Questions, involves players answering open-ended questions and guessing who said what. While at the Miami airport waiting for an ex-girlfriend to arrive, “I was wondering what we might talk about after all these years of being apart.” Soon after, Poses quit his job and founded the board game company All Things Equal in 1997. “A single question can spark an hour of conversation.” For Eric Poses, this thought was the light-bulb moment that changed the course of his career. I love how games have the power to bring people together while teaching the value of fairness in the context of winning and losing.
